Die Struck Hard Enamel Metal Lapel Pins

Please note we can only imprint years on "Die Struck - Hard Enamel" pins.
The above pricing will serve as a "ball park price" for most customers. Pricing subject to change upon submission of art.
Die struck, hard enamel lapel pins provide an un-matched level of quality
and clarity. We utilize a thicker base metal so they feel substantial and also
deliver a huge range of finishing options.
The words "die struck" refer to the method that the pins are
manufactured. Each design is engraved backwards into mold steel. The factory
then places an alloy metal, usually zinc, over the design and then stamps it. A
tool and die is created to trim the excess from the stamping and each pin is
trimmed. The pins are electroplated and injected with liquid color. Obviously
this is the simplified example but it’s important to know that a majority of
this process is done by hand.
The "Hard Enamel" part of the name is derived from the method we
use to inlay color in the design. We hand inlay liquid coloring that hardens.
When hard the pin is buffed so that the top levels of the pin are level with
the enamel.
This process was invented to look like the Cloisonné process which
was popular in the 70's but is very labor intensive. The die struck hard enamel
pin will satisfy the needs of the most discerning customer.

Design Requirements
for Die Struck Hard Enamel Pins
- The pin requires a raised area and recessed area
to hold the color.
- For this reason details such as object outlines and text
will be converted to raised metal.
- Fine detail may be reduced or removed so the pin is
legible at actual size.
- Gradients and over-lapping colors are difficult to
achieve in most situations
- Please submit your art in Adobe Creative Suite CS5 or
lower as a ".ai" or ".pdf" VECTOR file. You can't "convert" a JPG to
vector art.
- It has to originate as vector art.
For Graphic
Designers and Customers who work with National Brands
- designing lapel pins is totally different than
designing for print or the web and some looks/finishes might not work
- most designs that are submitted require some editing to
work as a lapel pin. We will complete these edits for you and show you an
art proof
- text works best as ALL CAPS, raised metal, not bold
with a tracking of at least 50
- colored text is possible if there is 3mm of area to
inject color into at scale
- colored and outlined fonts are very
difficult/impossible to do using this process unless the text is very
large
- please show us your design prior to getting final
approval from client.
